The advent of artificial intelligence has sent demand for data centers skyrocketing, along with industrial components to keep all the AI chips from overheating. "The key for chipmakers with AI ambitions is keeping data centers cool," Melius Research analyst Jake Levinson told CNBC. Levinson said cooling technologies manufacturers Carrier Global , Trane Technologies and Johnson Controls are all seeing higher demand for HVACs. Then there are the companies that create the infrastructure used to regulate temperature – from Parker-Hannafin's fluid connectors to Dover's industrial-style pumps used in liquid cooling. "We're having to challenge ourselves and how we support that capacity growth," CEO Scott Strazik told CNBC after the company posted first-quarter earnings last month.

Introduced predators kill about 25 million native birds in New Zealand annually, with about 4,000 native species threatened or at risk of extinction, according to the DOC. Under the program, the government plans to eradicate rats, possums (a marsupial native to the Americas), weasels, ferrets — and the pesky stoat. Chalky Island and the neighboring Passage Islands have been predator-free since 1999 following the first ever stoat eradication campaign, according to the DOC. And for Fleming, the recent stoat incursion only underscores the importance of the Predator Free 2050 plan. “If we eradicate stoats from Aotearoa (New Zealand) completely we remove the costs of incursions, and our wildlife can thrive alongside us,” he said.

As tensions fester between China and Taiwan, one elder politician from the island democracy is getting an effusive welcome on the mainland: Ma Ying-jeou, a former president. Mr. Ma’s 11-day trip across China, which was set to begin on Monday, comes at a fraught time. Beijing and Taipei have been in dispute over two Chinese fishermen who died while trying to flee a Taiwanese coast guard vessel in February, and China has sent its own coast guard ships close to a Taiwanese-controlled island near where the men died. Taiwanese officials expect China to intensify its military intimidation once the island’s next president, Lai Ching-te, takes office on May 20. A team of 21 scientists set off on an expedition in the largely uncharted waters of Bounty Trough off the coast of the South Island of New Zealand in February hoping to find a trove of new species.
